A couple determined to reach the hospital in order to deliver baby No. 4 led police on a high-speed chase in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

NBC reported the mother, Rachel Kohnen, told her husband, Ben Kohnen, that it was time at about 2 a.m.

While en route to the hospital, Rachel told Ben that this baby was coming faster than her previous three, and he proceeded to step on the gas -- traveling 85 mph in a 55 mph zone.

While zooming down the road, they passed by a police officer who began following them and then turned on his lights, Ben told NBC, but his wife told him there is no way they could stop and that she did not want to have the baby in the car.

Rather than pull over, like he wanted to, Ben listened to Rachel and continued driving, he said. By the time they reached the outskirts of Fort Doge, 30 miles away from their home, they were dialing 911 to let them know what the situation was.

The police officer, who was still tailing them, had already called for backup, however.

"It was too late by then because they had thrown out the tire spikes," Ben said.

The couple was forced to stop, get out of the car, and were surrounded by police.

"I was in the middle of a highway, having contractions, with guns pointed at me," Rachel recalled.

Ben said he was conflicted as the officers screamed orders for him to drop to his knees and his wife was in labor. He was worried they would have the baby in the street.

The police officers soon realized what the situation was, and instead of cuffing the two, the couple received a police escort to the hospital, where the Kohnens welcomed their fourth baby, Hazel, into the world.

Police did not file charges against the couple.
