Freddie Roach is looking for big fights for Miguel Cotto next year, saying in a recent interview that he wants the reigning World Boxing Council middleweight champion to face Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, Gennady Golovkin or Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Roach, who has helped Cotto become one of the top fighters in the world again, said in an interview with Tha Boxing Voice that Alvarez is on top of their list.

Previous reports indicated that Cotto and Alvarez will likely collide in a super fight on Cinco De Mayo weekend on May 2 next year, barring any major setback in the negotiation for the potential big-money fight.

And once they win against Alvarez, Roach said that they will next face Golovkin, the reigning World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organization middleweight champion, in a title unification fight.

"I think Canelo Alvarez is obviously our No. 1 choice, and then I would love to go fight 'Triple G' after we win that fight," Roach said.

Like the super fight against Alvarez, the title unification bout with Golovkin is also almost set in stone next year, but 'GGG' should win first in his world title defense against Marco Antonio Rubio on Saturday night in Carson, California.

"I would like one fight before that [facing Golovkin.] Obviously we do have a 160-pound title we have to defend and I think he's the perfect opponent for us. Maybe the two best fighters in the world," Roach said.

Top Rank Promotions boss Bob Arum also confirmed to Bad Left Hook that negotiation about the Cotto-Alvarez fight is underway, while also adding that the winner will face Golovkin should the 32-year-old Kazakh win against Rubio.

"Yeah, that's what we're trying to do. Have Cotto and Canelo fight, and Gennady is right there, probably could fight the winner," Arum said.

Aside from Alvarez and Golovkin, Roach said that he also wants Cotto to have another shot against Mayweather, who defeated the Puerto Rican champion in May 2012, but the veteran trainer is unsure if a rematch is possible.

"Of course there's Mayweather out there. He's ducking Manny [Pacquiao], but he beat Cotto once. And I don't know if he wants to fight us, but that's a pretty interesting fight for me," Roach said.
