Two men have been taken into police custody for their suspected connections to the brutal murder of a California State University Northridge student last month.

The victim, 23-year-old Abdullah Abdullatif Alkadi, was studying in California from Saudi Arabia. He disappeared from his home in Northridge on Sept. 17, and his remains were discovered on Thursday just off the 10 Freeway in the upscale Palm Desert area.

Police confirmed on Friday that the body was of Alkadi. However, details on the cause of death and condition of the body were not released.

"Because the investigation is at a crucial juncture, further information surrounding this investigation will not be released until the news conference," a Los Angeles Police Department press release stated.

According to the Hews Media Group-Community Newspaper, the two individuals were supposedly meeting the individual for a large cash transaction with Alkadi, reportedly to purchase a car that was listed through an online social networking website.

While both of the arrested men are being detained in Men's Central Jail, police believe a third suspect was involved. Law enforcement officials said they were aware of this suspect's identity and are working to locate this third person.

Alkadi had been studying electrical engineering in the U.S. since 2010 and was one of seven siblings from a very well-known family in Saudi Arabia. His body is scheduled to be flown back to his native country on Thursday.

An outpouring of mourning on social media shared their grief for Alkadi's death and demands that his killers be found.

"#RIP_Abdullah_Alkadi. Such a sad and heartbreaking death is a proof that terrorism has no religion and no country," one tweet read. "We demand justice for him."

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck is set to hold a press conference regarding the details of the case on Monday. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office is also evaluating the case and there are potential death penalty charges that could be made in this murder, according to Hews Media Group-Community Newspaper.
