Woman Arrested After Being Rescued From California Chimney
A woman trapped in the chimney of a two-story Thousand Oaks, California, home was rescued by firefighters early Sunday morning and arrested on suspicion of illegal entry, reports the Boston Herald.
In response to neighbors' reports of a woman crying in the area, Ventura County firefighters responded Sunday morning to the 1900 block of Woodside Drive where they found 30-year-old Genoveva Nunez-Figueroa stuck inside a chimney.
It took firefighters over two hours to free the woman from the chimney using chisels, drills and other tools to dismantle the brick structure. Ventura County fire Capt. Ron Oatman told The Associated Press that firefighters had to destroy most of the chimney and use dish soap to lubricate the chimney flue before lifting Nunez-Figueroa out of the space using a ladder truck and stokes basket.
Nunez-Figueroa was removed from the chimney around 8:15 a.m. conscious and without apparent injuries. She was transported to Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center for evaluation before being arrested on suspicion of illegal entry and giving false information to a peace officer, reports The Ventura County Star.
According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, Nunez-Figueroa knows the homeowner who was not present during the botched entry.
ABC7 reports that the homeowner met Nunez-Figueroa online, and the two dated several times before he ended the relationship.
This is the second time Nunez-Figueroa has been discovered on his roof. Two weeks ago, the homeowner saw her and called police, but she could not be found.
"I'm going to be a little more cautious of who I invite into my house now," said Lawrence, the homeowner who refused to give his last name, according to ABC7.
