Phones are getting bigger and customers are actually liking it. On Friday, Samsung will release an affordable plus-sized smartphone called the Galaxy Mega 2 and AT&T will be the first to offer it.

The phone will sell for $149.99 with a 2-year contract from AT&T or $475 without a contract. This is much cheaper than other Androids and iOS devices.

The Galaxy Mega 2 will feature a power-saving mode and a private mode. The screen will only be a 720 pixel display on a 6-inch screen.

The camera will be only 8 megapixels but the 6-inch screen is really what Samsung wanted to boast with this phone.

Currently, AT&T is offering a $100 credit if customers enroll in their new AT&T Next plan which allows customers to purchase a phone over time rather than all at once. The phone can be had on the Next 18 plan for just $19.80 a month.

It's an interesting strategy for Samsung to release this economically priced phone at this time of the year. With Apple's iPhone 6 having so many problems and bugs, Samsung probably wanted to get a phone out as quickly as they could. With the Galaxy Mega 2, no one will be wooed by its specs, but rather by its price and size.

The 6-inch screen is bigger than any phone Apple offers (yet). It seems that customers are embracing these bigger screens as they watch movies and look at photos on their phones more than ever before.

AT&T is trying hard to get as many smartphones as they can. Just recently they started exclusively offering the Amazon smartphone, the Amazon Fire.
