Burger King Menu: 'Satisfries' - New Low-Calorie Crinkle Cut French Fries
Feel a little guilty after you eat fast food? Well Burger King doesn't want people to feel this way after eating their French fries any longer.
The hamburger chain, number 2 in the world, is launching a new crinkle cut french fry that contains 20 percent fewer calories than their regular fries. These new French fries will be called "Satisfries."
Burger Kings says that a small order of Satisfries" contains a total of 270 calories as a result of a new batter that does not absorb too much oil. The difference between an order of Burger King's small regular fries and a small Satisfries is 340 calories.
Taking foods that everyone loves and lessening the guilt within them is not a new concept. Supermarkets are filled with products for example baked potato chips. It is hard for people to give up on their favorite foods this concept helps them not have to. The purpose is to lower the calories within foods but not their flavor.
The executive of Burger Kings says that that consumer will not be able to notice that Satisfries is lower in calories. The fries are made with the same ingredients; potato, oil and batter. They are even cooked the same way as the regular fries, in the same fryer, and cooked for the same length of time. The only difference is that the ingredients in the batter are made to block out more oil than the original batter. The reasons the Satisfries are crinkle cut is so that employees may tell the difference between them and the originals.
At a New York City hotel reporters were given a preview last week. They were each served a carton of Satisfries. Burger King in its presentation compared their Satisfries to their competing fries from McDonalds pound for pound. Executives realized that Satisfries have 30 percent less calories than the fries from McDonalds.
