A teen girl with a heart condition collapsed and died while at a "haunted house" theme park in Ohio, according to authorities. Christian Faith Benge, 16, was visiting Land of Illusion Haunted Scream Park in Middleton, Ohio, Friday night when she collapsed.

Benge was attending the amusement park with her family to watch her father's band perform, police said. Later in the evening, she fainted in one of the haunted attractions. Despite her mother and paramedic's attempts to revive the girl, Benge died that night.

She had several pre-existing health conditions; Benge had only a single lung and an irregular heart as well.

"The physical autopsy showed that she had, among the pre-existing conditions, which were all respiratory, she also had some heart anomaly, a heart with the walls that were thicker than they should be," Chief Investigator Doyle Burke for the Warren County Coroner's Office said to NBC News Tuesday. "A compromised heart is what it is."

Christian's mother, Jean Benge, told NBC Cincinnati affiliate WLWT, "The heart had to compensate for the lung, and so the heart enlarged to four times its size, and it just stopped. ... She was the sweetest, most generous, kindhearted, loving person. I just miss her so much. My best friend is gone. But she's better off."

Results of a toxicology report must be processed before an official report is issues, but Burke said he didn't expect there to be anything of note there. He said he couldn't definitively comment on whether fear led to the girl's condition exacerbating.

"I guess that's the million dollar question, we're going to attempt to answer that, but I don't know if we will ever be able to," Burke said. "It did occur inside this haunted attracted, is there a connection? Maybe."

The Land of Illusion theme park released a statement stating, "Christian will be in our hearts forever. ... We ask the community to remember her as the kind and beautiful young person she was. Now is the time to reflect on the joy she brought to so many."
