Although Sarah Paulson has filmed a lot of traumatizing scenes on "American Horror Story," it was Season 4, dubbed "Freak Show," that caused the actress to have her first breakdown.

Paulson plays conjoined twins Bette and Dot this season.

"They have two heads and two brains in one body, but, of course, I only have one of each," Paulson said in an interview with Vulture.

During a particular scene, Paulson had to write in a diary as Dot while simultaneously eating bread as Bette.

"So I was doing my part as Bette, but as Dot I'm writing with my dominant side and my voice kept wanting to come out as Dot," Paulson explained.

The challenge led Paulson to freak out on the set of "Freak Show."

"I freaked out," she explained. "Before I knew it, I was crying on set."

Thankfully Ryan Murphy, "American Horror Story" creator, stepped in and took Paulson for a walk.

"He was like, 'Lady, you're doing something that no one has ever done before,'" Paulson recalled. "Which was nice, but I was just so scared -- I am so scared."

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Murphy teased the future of Paulson's Bette and Dot.

"... it's interesting to write and research which we've done a lot, if you thought the catty culture existed now with the media turning women against each other, back then it was astounding," he said. "Those three, being Sarah's two heads and [Jessica Lange's Elsa's] one, are going to be fighting for that single spotlight as we go on. But Dot never liked Elsa to begin with so it makes sense to me that she's also trying to screw her over in a weird way."

"American Horror Story: Freak Show" airs on FX on Wednesday at 10 p.m.
