A Bristol artist who is known for his graffiti and popup murals recently placed a mural on a wall near his home. Less than 24 hours later, it was vandalized with black paint.

Banksy, a street artist in Bristol, placed The Girl with the Pierced Ear Drum on a studio wall sometime Monday. Tuesday it had been splattered with black paint by vandals.

On his website, Banksy confirmed that he made the mural and that it had been vandalized.

A joint owner of the recording studio where Banksy placed the mural expressed her anger for the vandals.

"It's a real shame and a bit annoying. Someone just snuck down, did it and then snuck off," Ellie Morgan said.

"One of the bands that was recording came in and said someone had thrown paint on it. When we went out it was still wet and dripping. Banksy had already been back to touch it up once. Hopefully he will come back and touch it up again."

This is not the first time that Banksy has been affected by vandals. Recently, one of Banksy's paintings was defaced with a male body part painted on it.

Banksy's paintings have drawn controversy because some of them depict political images or argue with current government policies.

Earlier this month, one of Banky's paintings that depicted five pigeons attacking another bird was taken down. Banksy was accused of being "offensive" and "racist" because of the painting.

This painting appeared with the pigeons holding up signs that said "go back to Africa" and "migrants not welcome," among other things.
