A man suspected of shooting two deputies in a Sacramento, California motel parking lot was previously deported twice to Mexico, authorities told the Sacramento Bee.

The man, who identified himself as Marcelo Marquez, is actually Luis Enrique Monroy-Bracamonte, the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said Saturday.

He has been deported to Mexico twice. The first time was in 1997 after being convicted of narcotics sales in Arizona, and the second time was in 2001.

Police are unsure how the exchange between the deputies, Marquez and his wife, Janelle Marquez Monroy, both of Utah, escalated into the shooting.

Marquez Monroy was charged with attempted murder and two counts of carjacking and taken to jail Saturday.

Marquez, or Monroy-Bracamonte, was charged with two counts of murder, attempted murder and carjacking. ICE requested he be turned over to federal authorities if released from the local jail, but his chances of being released from Sacramento are slim.

The Sheriff's Office said the Utah couple was cooperating with authorities, and they have not been able to determine a motive for the shooting.

But authorities have become aware of Monroy-Bracamonte of multiple identities. A friend who only identified him as "Tiger" said that he is the face behind the Facebook account for Julian Beltran. The individual which looks like him has tattoos on his stomach which read "Mexican Pride," and "Sinaloa" on his chest, which indicates where in Mexico he is from.

For this reason, authorities are running the fingerprints of both suspects in order to confirm their identities. Until then, the local authorities are identifying them by their given names: Marquez and Marquez Monroy. Both are suspected of a crime spree Saturday that began in the motel parking lot, where Marquez gunned down two officers, and continued with two carjackings and one other shooting, before the couple ended in Auburn.

They were armed with a AR-15 rifle and at least two pistols.
