Paul Reubens Talks New Pee-wee Herman Movie, Going on 'The Dating Game' [Watch]
Paul Reubens has announced that his alter ego Pee-wee Herman will be returning.
Reubens was a guest on "The Tonight Show" when he told Jimmy Fallon the big news. Fallon was telling Reubens how much he loved "Pee-wee's Big Adventure," even going as far as saying that he had seen it about 150 times.
"There is going to be one, and I was hoping I could make this huge announcement tonight, but it's a week away I think from being announced," he said.
He said Judd Apatow was still attached to the project, but he added that nothing he was saying was new information, as it leaked three years ago. But he couldn't announce who the director would be.
The movie starts shooting in February.
Rebeuns talked a little bit about the beginning of Herman. He said that he first created the character as a member of The Groundlings, an improv group based in Los Angeles. His group did different types of comedians, so his was a bad comic who never remembered punchlines.
Reubens also shared that he was on "The Dating Game." But he wasn't himself. He decided to go on as Herman, who he had just created. He said there were about 200 other contestants trying out, but that as soon as he walked in wearing his Herman costume, producers were drawn to him.
He could tell he was going to be picked for the show.
Fallon then shared a picture of Herman on the show. Herman had a huge smile on his face, and the other two contestants were just staring at him.
Reubens revealed that the picture was from when he won. He was on the show three times, and the last time was when he won.
But Reubens never got to go on the date. It kept being postponed, and then the woman who chose him got married.
