'Hunger Games: Mockingjay' Soundtrack Update: Lorde Was Nervous To Call Kanye West For Album
Lorde is on Billboard's November issue, where she opens up about taking control over "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" soundtrack.
The 17-year-old singer and songwriter is on three of the songs for the soundtrack and a possible fourth, with one song being labeled as having "various artists."
She talked about how she's the "worst person ever" at talking to people she doesn't know on the phone. But she overcame that issue when she decided to call Kanye West, even though she stalled.
"I would put off calling him," she told Billboard. "I'd say, it's 12:57, I'll do it at 1."
Kanye West reworked her song "Yellow Flicker Beat" and made a new track, "Flicker."
Lorde talked about thinking of "The Hunger Games" fans when making music for the track and not just her.
"It would've been selfish for me to make ambient house music. With a film like that, everyone likes it, not just people like me," she said.
"I knew this was right for me as an artist and I felt it would be cool for my career. People that see me as having a couple of hits and performing on an awards show would see that, between records, I'd committed to a pretty serious body of work."
"Ladder Song" is another track she is featured on.
When the soundtrack was released, the fifth track was named, "Track 5" from various artists. A recent Hollywood Life report confirmed that Lorde is on that track as well, along with Ariana Grande and Diplo.
Lorde took to Twitter when speculation about the track started to go around, making fans believe that the people on the track were supposed to be kept a secret.
She tweeted, "the unnamed track isn't that way because of secrecy's sake -- it's just not quite finished *buys self watch*."
Lorde has been into singing and dancing since she was 5 years old.
