Grumpy Cat New Movie: First Trailer For 'Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever' Released [Watch]
A first look at Lifetime channel's upcoming TV-movie starring pop culture sensation Grumpy Cat was released on Friday.
The Christmas-themed project, "Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever," will feature what the cat would say in an inner monologue, voiced by "Parks and Recreation" star Aubrey Plaza.
Grumpy Cat, whose real name is Tardar Sauce, became an Internet fixture in 2012, when memes with the frown-faced animal began to be used for seemingly everything. A case of feline dwarfism caused the disgruntled look to permanently stay on the cat's face. The displeased look in the feline's expression briefly made Tardar Sauce the biggest celebrity on four legs.
The premise of the holiday made-for TV movie finds Grumpy, who lives in a mall pet shop constantly overlooked by potential families for cheerier animals. The cat grows increasingly sour and lonely each time a buyer passes her over.
As the holidays grow near, a 12-year-old girl, Chrystal, happens to enter the pet shop and immediately falls in love with the misfit Grumpy Cat. The girl and cat grow to be close friends, as Chrystal is the only person who can hear the cat speak its dry comments.
The two become involved in the dangerous dognapping scheme of an expensive puppy, and Grumpy must show that, for once, she cares enough to help rescue Chrystal, who is in trouble.
"Don't get sappy on me. Oh wait, I forgot. It's a Lifetime movie," Plaza said in the trailer as the Grinch-like cat whose heart grows three sizes in the movie.
Plaza was confirmed in September as the voice of the lead character in the film. Her deadpan humor "perfectly suits" the sarcastic cat's personality, according to Cinema Blend.
"Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever" premieres on Lifetime on Nov. 29 at 8/7c p.m.
