Jenni Rivera Death: Chiquis Rivera Explains Why She Was Hurt by Uncle Lupillo Rivera
Chiquis Rivera was a guest on "Sabado Gigante" this weekend, and she spoke about why she was really upset with her uncle, Lupillo Rivera.
Lupillo was a guest on the variety show earlier in the year, and though he spoke kindly about his niece on the show, he quickly backtracked and said she was nothing special. "Sabado Gigante" host Don Francisco asked Chiquis how she felt about his words. The aspiring singer said that she agreed with Lupillo, even though it did hurt her feelings.
But his comments are not the real reason she has had problems with him. And for the very first time, she revealed the truth, which has to do with Jenni Rivera's death.
"When all that happened on Dec. 9, I was the one who sent my uncles [to look for her.] I said, 'I want you to go look for my mom in that mountain. She has to be there,'" she said. "I said, 'Please go look for her.' They went and I realized that my Uncle Juan and Uncle Gustavo went up to the mountain to look for my mom, as I asked them, and my Uncle Lupe didn't climb up. He was in the studio recording a song."
The song he was recording was "Yo Te Extrañare," or "I Will Miss You." Chiquis said she liked the song, but she and her siblings felt hurt by his actions. Going to the top of the mountain was a two-hour trip each way, she said.
When Don Francisco asked if she had gone to visit the crash site, Chiquis said that she and her siblings had yet to go. The location has been turned into a tourist attraction, with a memorial dedicated to the late singer.
Chiquis said that she and her siblings were afraid to go in the past, but that they now feel ready to visit.
The oldest of Jenni's children also talked about what she hopes with her career.
"People say that it's really easy for her because she is Jenni Rivera's daughter, but for me, it's the opposite because my mom was No. 1," she said. "I want to to be an extension of my Mom's legacy."
Chiquis added that her mother's singing changed throughout her career, and that singers "learn and improve as time goes by."
