According to Rolling Stone, the "Shake it Off" singer made history this week by becoming the first artist of 2014 to sell more than 1 million albums within the first week of release.
Billboard dually notes that Swift's latest musical project has earned "1989" the largest sales week in over 12 years.
"1989," which first hit music stands on Oct. 27, was considered a risky project for the singer, who announced her decision to go pop and leave country behind. earlier this year. Swift's biggest hit on the album thus far, "Shake it Off", was also criticized and considered controversial among listeners who felt that the song's music video was racist.
Despite the criticism and controversy, Swift's "1989" has managed to make history and surpassed its first week sales predictions, which were initially set at between 600,00 and 750,00, according to Rolling Stone.

Swift's website states that her biggest fans will be given the opportunity to get tickets early if they are American Express card members or if they sign up to Swift's e-mail list.
"Pre-sales for European shows start on November 4. Pre-sales for North America shows start on November 7," the website reads.
Meanwhile, fans who purchase "1989" will be given a chance to win free tickets and a meet and greet with Swift. Last week, Swift announced on Instagram her decision to give out 1,000 tickets and 500 meet and greets to fans who purchased her "1989 album."
Swift's "1989 World Tour" debuts in Bossier City, LA on May 20, 2015 and will play in Europe and Australia in December 2015.
