The movies and the movie stars are making their way back to TV. In TV news, MTV has green-light and okayed production for a TV show based on the "Scream" movie franchise. Kyra Sedgwick, star of films and the hit TNT drama "The Closer" is returning to TV, albeit cable, in a comedy.

MTV made an announcement last year that they would indeed green-light a TV series based on the "Scream" movie franchise. Now "Scream," the TV series, has come to fruition, and with a slated release date for next year. Sedgwick will be teaming up with the comedic writing talent behind "The New Adventures of Old Christine" for a new half-hour comedy TV show on HBO.

In the making of the "Scream" TV series, MTV decided to hire some horror genre writers and directors. "Scream," the 1996 slasher film had Wes Craven behind the box office franchise. Craven is involved in this project, along with writers Jill Blotevogel ("Ravenswood" and "Harper's Island"); and Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin from "Criminal Minds" penning the script, Entertainment Weekly reported.

The show features up and coming actors and actresses Willa Fitzgerald ("Alpha House," "Royal Pains"), Amy Forsyth ("Torment," "Reign"), John Karna ("Premature," "The Neighbors"), Carlson Young ("Key and Peele," "The Kroll Show"), and Amadeus Serafini, Variety reported. The director Jamie Travis ("Fakin' It") is helming the pilot.

The premise of the show centers around a YouTube video going viral. The video soon leads to problems for the teenage gang of Lakewood. The video and the interaction between the teens serve as the catalyst for a murder that opens old wounds to the town's troubled past.

"Scream" is expected to debut on Oct. 2015 with 10 episodes, Variety reported. It is unclear if the famous knife wielding Ghostface character will make an appearance.

Moving from something scary to another TV series that is more lighthearted, it is Sedgwick in a new comedy. "The New Adventures Of Old Christine" creator Kari Lizer and Sedgwick will be working together on this comedy TV project. It is a half-hour single camera comedy show at HBO, Deadline reported. Sedgwick will star, and Lizer is writing the yet to be titled comedy. Both power women will also executive produce.

It is about Kate (Sedgwick) who was a nun in the order of the Sisters of Mercy, San Mateo Chapter. Kate however becomes disillusioned with her lifetime of service to the church and her marriage that she no longer believes in, Deadline reported. Kate boldly decides to leave the church and her marriage that she gave her life to since she was 17 years old.

Kate is no longer Sister Katherine, just Kate. It is also about her navigating her "new" life and figuring out who she is now.

Sedgwick and Lizer sounds like a good team up. Lizer's "The New Adventures Of Old Christine" gave Julia Louis-Dreyfus an Emmy. And Sedgwick had a lot of funny elements to her character on "The Closer." Sedgwick's most recent comedy stint was a story arch on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." Sedgwick is also executive producing an upcoming TNT supernatural medical drama titled "Proof," Deadline reported.

There is still no word on when the untitled comedy project starring Sedgwick, along with Lizer, will be debuting on  HBO.
