Rene "Residente" Perez of Calle 13 was in Argentina for the 2014 Personal Fest, and while in the country, he was also acknowledged for his contributions to Latinos.

Perez was named the Outstanding Latin American Personality by the Metropolitan University for Education and Work, or UMET, on Nov. 10. He was given his award by Victor Santa Maria, president of the cultural center Caras y Caretas, and Nicolas Trotta of UMET.

"I'm very honored to receive this prize, that it comes from Argentina," he said of the award given to those with democratic values. "This work started before Calle 13. These are values that were instilled in me. My dad was always at the top of the workers' struggles, and all the social work we do has relied heavily on the needs of the people, because they are not being listened to. We have lent them our stage or we say it ourselves. That's what Calle 13 has done."

On Sunday, Perez performed at Personal Fest and took the time to talk about his wife and son. Perez is married to actress Soledad Fandiño, and the two have a 3-month-old son together. It was his first time in Argentina after becoming a father, and he was feeling particularly emotional.

"You know that my wife is Argentine, so this is a special night for me," he said. "I want to dedicate this show to my son's family, who is around here somewhere."

Before singing "Ojos Color Sol," he once again mentioned Fandiño's family.

Calle 13 played for about an hour and a half, and Rene also spoke about political issues. He expressed his opinions on the missing Mexican students, Luciano Arruga, an Argentine boy who has been missing since 2009, and a few other topics.
