Manchester United Football Club News: Former Boss David Moyes Named Real Sociedad Coach
Former Manchester United boss David Moyes will be the new coach of Real Sociedad, the team announced on Monday night.
Real Sociedad announced on their official website that they have reached a deal with Moyes after sacking Jagoba Arrasate following the club's dismal start this season, which saw them dropping to 15th place in Spanish La Liga.
Moyes, who reportedly agreed to sign a one-and-a-half-year deal with the Spanish club, will arrive in Spain on Wednesday to conduct his first training session. According to a recent statement from the club, the 51-year-old manager will be officially introduced on Thursday at Anoeta.
Moyes' appointment drew mixed reactions from fans, who are aware of the Scottish manager's dismal stint at Manchester United, but Spanish football analyst Phil Ball said he believes that the new coach could rebuild his credibility at Real Sociedad.
Ball pointed out in an interview with CNN that Moyes could re-establish himself as one of the top football managers in the world because he is known for developing local talent. Like Everton, his former club where he enjoyed success before taking the Manchester United job, Real Sociedad is a team that relies heavily on local talent from their youth academy.
"Sociedad are sixth in the European league of providing professional players to themselves and any other teams, above Athletic Bilbao and only two places behind Barcelona, which is astonishing," Ball said. "Moyes was successful, not on a shoestring -- Everton weren't a poor club, but they weren't rich either -- and he was clever in making those medium-guy signings and making them good."
Moyes got the job just seven months after he was fired by Manchester United after the Red Devils finished seventh in the English Premier League last season -- just a year after winning the title under former boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who retired after the 2012-13 season.
