CBS 'The Big Bang Theory' Season 8 Cast News: Voice of Howard Wolowitz's Mom Carol Ann Susi Dead of Cancer
On Tuesday, Carol Ann Susi, an actress from the hit show "The Big Bang Theory," died of cancer at the age of 62.
Susi starred as the voice of the heard, but never seen, Mrs. Wolowitz. She may be the most famous unseen actress in TV history.
Late Tuesday night, "TBBT" creator Chuck Lorre, confirmed the news of Susi's death in a statement, accoridng to Newsday.
"The Mrs. Wolowitz character on 'TBBT' became a bit of a mystery throughout the show's eight seasons. What was not a mystery, however, was Carol Ann's immense talent and comedic timing," the statement read.
Susi played Howard's mother, Debbie Wolowitz. With her Brooklyn accent, her voice filled the room whenever she yelled at him over the phone, CNN reports.
The late actress also briefly appeared in "Seinfeld" as George Costanza's "girlfriend." She was the daughter of George's unemployment adviser, so he took her out on a date to con her into extending his benefits.
Susi stood out in her career because viewers never saw here on "TBBT." It was left to their imagination to know exactly how big she was and what kinds of colors she wore.
In a 2012 interview with Cleveland's The Plain Dealer, Susi revealed that she was not originally sure if her "TBBT" character would be permanent.
"I did an episode in the first season, but I had no idea whether they would bring her back," she said. "They said it was possible this would be a recurring character, but you can't get hopeful. Then, when I did a second episode, Chuck Lorre said to me, 'Carlton the Doorman. That's the kind of thing we're going for here. You don't mind not seeing the hair and makeup people for the next 10 years?' And I said, 'Not at all, as long as I get paid.'"
According to The Associated Press, Susi is survived by her brother, Michael Susi, and his wife, Connie.
