Mario Lopez spoke to Fox News Latino exclusively about his involvement with the Boys and Girls Club and the inspiration behind the fish tank that is set to premiere on Animal Planet's hit reality show, "Tanked."

The host for "Extra" is an Alumni Ambassador of Fitness of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

"I grew up with the Boys and Girls Club and it kept me out of trouble," the host, who has been involved with the club since he was 5 years old, said.

He also mentioned that he liked the idea of fish for the members of the club because it gives kids something fun and educational to experience.

"I'm a fan of the show," he said. "And I just thought it would be nice and special for Wayde and Brett to do a cool tank at one of the clubs for the kids."

Both Wayde King and Brett Raymer build exotic fish tanks for a living and are stars of the reality show "Tanked."

They visited Monterey Park to reveal an exotic new custom fish tank that they had created for Mario on behalf of the Boys and Girls Club of West San Gabriel Valley...and for a fitness lesson.

"Brett and I are not in the greatest shape - he's got bad knees, I've got a big belly - but it was fun," Wayde said about the calisthenics drill Mario led for the group of kids and the two New Yorkers.

"But it was definitely fun doing calisthenics on the lawn with the kids, and it was good for everyone to be athletic," he added.

After the outdoor calisthenics instruction, Mario brought the kids inside to give them the first look at the 180-gallon tank. The tank has a unique interactive component to inspire kids to exercise.

"Now that they have an aquarium, the kids get mesmerized by the fish floating," Wayde said. He said he noticed some kids expressing interest in becoming marine biologists after seeing the new tank.

Mario credits the organization for keeping his life on track while both his parents worked.
