FX 'Sons of Anarchy' Season 7 Cast and Spoilers: Latino Actor Jacob Vargas Reveals Fate of Montez, Talks Diversity in TV
In a recent interview, Mexican-American actor Jacob Vargas talked about his FX series "Sons of Anarchy."
Although he cannot give too much information about "SOA" away, the actor admitted that his character Montez will at least make it to the end of the season in an interview with Latina magazine.
"I will tell you that there is a lot more to come with Montez, and he does get tasked some dirty deeds," he said. "And towards the end of the season everything starts to unravel and all these lies start to really affect the club, and so they have to take some drastic measures that I'm involved in as well."
Vargas talked about how people used to say he would be a great fit for the show way before he even got on. He used the classic 'fake it till you make it' motto when auditioning for the role.
"The key was that they asked me if I rode a motorcycle, so I said 'Of course, I ride.' And as soon as I booked the job, I called my agent and I said 'Okay, I have to learn how to ride a motorcycle,'" he joked.
The actor was so nervous the first time he had to ride the bike on camera that he messed up the shot.
Vargas and Theo Rossi, who plays Juan Carlos "Juice" Ortiz, are the only Latinos on "SOA."
"And networks are asking how do we bring more diversity? You follow what 'SOA' does," he said. "They just do it. They just cast people of different ethnicities."
The actor also discussed racism, saying that he believes it is alive and well but just masked a little.
"I find that people are very ignorant to other people's races and ethnicities, and don't take the time to really learn about different cultures," he said.
Vargas has been in a lot of films and is best known for his role in the Selena biopic; he's the guy who fixes their flat tire and says, "Anything for Selenas!"
