AMA Winners 2014: Katy Perry, One Direction, Iggy Azalea, Beyoncé Lead the Winners List
Katy Perry may have been on the other side of the Pacific during the 2014 American Music Awards on Sunday, but that didn't stop the "Prism" singer from receiving three trophies in the pop field.
Perry, who was awarded Single of the Year for "Dark Horse" featuring Juicy J and named the Favorite Female Artist in both the Pop/Rock and Adult Contemporary categories, delivered her acceptance speech from Australia where her Prismatic World Tour is currently underway.
One Direction snatched three awards for Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock Band, Duo or Group and Favorite Pop/Rock Album for "Midnight Memories."
Iggy Azalea earned two AMAs for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop's Favorite Artist and Favorite Album for "The New Classic," tying veteran singer Beyoncé who won the same two awards in the Soul/R&B category for her self-titled album.
The most talked-about performance of the night was Jennifer Lopez and Azalea's finale as the scantily clad songbirds gyrated against stripper poles while singing Lopez's new hit song "Booty."
Highlights of the AMAs also include Taylor Swift's show-opening "Blank Space," One Direction's mellow "Night Changes," the "Bang Bang" trio of Ariana Grande, Jessie J and Nicki Minaj. Fergie, Mary J. Blige and Lil Wayne also had stellar performances.
There was a lot of hype about Garth Brooks performing live at the AMAs, but in the end, he performed his comeback single "People Loving People" via satellite from North Carolina.
Rapper Waka Flocka Flame stole the first part of the AMAs, and he was not even part of the televised show. The rapper's quirky throat lozenge commercial for Pine Bros. throat lozenges combined sore throat relief, suggestive weed smoking and good humor.
