'Frozen' Movie and Songs: Star Indina Menzel Says Sequel Is in the Works
There is official word that a sequel to Disney's smash-hit "Frozen" is in the works, straight from the mouth of one of its stars. Actress and singer, Idina Menzel, who starred as the voice of Queen Elsa, said "Frozen 2" is currently in development.
Menzel confirmed the news after months of speculation about the possibility of a sequel to the highest-grossing animated film in history. In an interview with the Telegraph, she shared what she could about another feature-film or a stage musical. There was even talk about a six-minute short due out in theaters this Christmas season.
She said, "that they're all in the works."
Menzel said she expects to reprise her voice role on screen but added it was unlikely she would be involved in any theater production of the story. The 43-year-old has been a Broadway star for many years, performing in shows such as "If/Then" and "Wicked." It therefore delighted her fans to hear that she could play Elsa on the stage as well.
"Not the stage show – I don't know what will happen with that – but the movie hopefully. We'll see. I'm just going along for the ride," Menzel said.
Despite only doing work for "Frozen" behind a microphone, Menzel said she was still amazed by the number of young girls who approach her, recognizing her as the singer of the track "Let It Go" and other "Frozen" musical numbers.
"I remember some of those classic Disney songs from movies, and you knew the character but you didn't know the person behind the song. But this is different, this is weird," she said.
Though Menzel is known for her powerful voice, she remains humble about her skills.
"I can't give any tips on how to sing 'Let It Go' because I barely can sing it sometimes. It's really hard. I can't wake up in the morning and just sing it," she said. "I guess my advice is that everyone who likes to sing it should sing it loud and proud and karaoke it out, sing it in the shower, sing it in the car and don't worry about hitting the high notes."
