The Seattle Mariners are reportedly looking to make a big splash this offseason, with sources indicating that the club is looking for big trades to bolster their roster.

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Mariners are looking to strike trades to acquire Yoenis Cespedes, Justin Upton, Evan Gattis or Matt Kemp to play alongside Robinson Cano. Nelson Cruz is also on their list, but the Mariners will have to finalize a deal with him via free agency.

The Mariners, who almost made it into the playoffs last season after finishing with an 87-75 record, are reportedly determined to land at least one of their main targets this offseason, but it is unclear who their top priority is at this point.

"It isn't known how the Mariners prioritize the five, but they have some history with at least three of them: they almost had a deal for Upton two years ago, their baseball people badly wanted Cruz last winter before ownership nixed that pursuit and they have shown interest in Cespedes in the past," Heyman wrote.

Among their trade targets, Cespedes could be their most realistic option, considering the fact that the Boston Red Sox are reportedly ready to part ways with the center fielder.

Cespedes, who batted .260 last season with 22 home runs and 100 RBIs, became a dispensable asset for the Red Sox after they acquired top free agents Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez, who both signed lucrative deals with Boston earlier this week.

The Red Sox will also be forced to trade the 29-year-old Cuba native if they become successful in their pursuit of free agent pitcher Jon Lester, who is also reportedly leaning towards reuniting with his former club.

But if they fail to land at least one of their top trade targets, Heyman said that the Mariners will likely focus on Cruz, who has been on their radar since last season.

However, Cruz, who batted .271 with 40 home runs and 108 RBIs last season, rejected a one-year, $15.3 million qualifying offer from the Baltimore Orioles. It means that the Mariners will have to surrender a draft pick as compensation to Baltimore if Cruz decides to move to Seattle this offseason.
