When most coffee drinkers think of getting coffee, they think of big boys like Starbucks and Caribou Coffee. Typically, these shops are no-frills java shops with little to choose from on the menu.

Mountain Mudd Cafe in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is more than just a corporate cafe. It's a family-owned shop, and the employees are all part of the family.

Latin Post visited the shop, which is technically located in the suburb New Hope (7530 42nd Ave. N), and we spoke with Nicole Fields. Fields is the daughter of Les and MaryEllen Everhart. Her brother Nick and sister Natalie also work there.

Les runs errands for his wife, along with Nicole and Natalie, while they work in the store.

The idea came from a family dinner in 2007, and Fields said, "Once you [make] a decision, you can't change your mind."

Nicole Fields described the importance of a great experience while using the best quality products at Mountain Mudd.

Mountain Mudd serves more than just coffee and lattes though. They serve Greek food, wine and are "known to have the best Chai in town," according to Fields.

Mountain Mudd also offers entertainment.

"We have a live Elvis entertainer ... [and offer] a fun energetic rock and roll theme decor," Fields said.

Her family knew what they wanted out of the shop because they were already big coffee drinkers. There are live music nights that are accompanied with beer and wine.

Fields said she and her family also has a coffee trailer that was added this past summer and would "love to expand and have more locations."

Mountain Mudd offers traditional Greek food including gyros, greek wraps and "of course Baklava for dessert." People who frequent Mountain Mudd enjoy the family atmosphere, Fields said.

"They love that we know the drink or food that they will order before they walk in the door."

Mountain Mudd gets their ingredients from local bakeries and their coffee beans and supplies from a local roaster in Minneapolis. Fields said there are some vegetarian and gluten free items for those with dietary restrictions as well.
