Soul Train Awards Recap & Winners 2014: Music Artists, Stars Shine on Stage at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas
The 2014 Soul Train Music Awards aired Sunday night with talk show host Wendy Williams serving as the mistress of ceremonies.
Artists filled the stage at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas with tons of "throwback" performances and artist reunions.
Singer Chris Brown performed the medley and hit the stage a few times after winning Best Dance Performance, Best Collaboration and Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year for the hit song "Loyal" along with rappers Lil Wayne and Tyga.
The crowd rumbled for the 1990s "throwback" performance by Jodeci. The original members K-Ci and Jojo Hailey performed a few hits with brothers Devante and Dalvin DeGrate. They also debuted a new song, "Nobody Wins," with B.o.B.
Missy Elliott shouted out mid-performance, "You know I can't leave this without saying something. I can't just be on the hook what you think I'm Patty LaBelle?"
She, Lil Kim and Da Brat reunited with girl group Total for a 90s hit performance "Not Tonight (Ladies Night Remix)." The reunion performance made a tribute to late TLC singer Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes.
Two days before the awards night Missy tweeted, "Don't compromise your Talent just to be heard! Don't switch up who you truly are just to fit in! You rest better just being you!"
She also tweeted that she wrote many of the female hottest rappers songs and always stand to see female artists united.
Singer Trey Songz won Best R&B/Soul Male Artist of the Year, while Beyoncé took home the female version of the award. Her album "Beyoncé" won Best Album of the Year as well.
Former Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland took home the Best Independent R&B/Soul Performance Award along with Joe for "Love and Sex Part 2."
With all the reminiscing of the past, the Soul Train Music Awards still made room for newer artists and awarded Nico and Vinz with Best New Artist.
