Rihanna stars in an upcoming animated film, "Home." The DreamWorks Animation film, also starring Jim Parsons, hits theaters March 27, 2015.

According to TheWrap, "Home" originally was given a Nov. 26 ,2014 slot, taking the same slot as "Frozen" did in 2013. Instead, the movie switched dates with the DreamWorks film "Penguins of Madagascar."

The singer dubbed Bad Gal Riri is the voiceover actress for a school girl named Gratuity Tucci, nicknamed Tip, Huffington Post reports. She meets an alien from the planet Boov named Oh, who is voiced by Parsons. The two embark on a journey after they meet in what looks like a grocery store in the trailer. Meanwhile, the entire Boov population that is looking for a safe place to call home. 

In the "Almost Home" short, which the studio released in place of a trailer, the background of the Boov's journey is given to show how they ended up finding the planet Earth. When the Boov find Earth, they immediately relocate all human beings to reorganize the planet, according to IMDb. Tip and Oh are the two that manage to avoid capture. They realize how much more is going on and set out for the road trip of a lifetime.

DreamWorks showed the mini film "Almost Home" several months before the official movie trailer was released. Steve Martin stars as Captain Smek in the four-minute short film.

Produced by Matt Ember, Chris Jenkins and Suzanne Buirgy, "Home" is based on the children's book "The True Meaning of Smekday" by Adam Rex. Tim Johnson, who also worked on "Antz," directed the film.

"Home" swapped dates with "Penguins of Madagascar" to put the "Madagascar" spin-off up against the Time Warner Bros. comedy sequel "Horrible Bosses 2." "Madagascar" movies have been a success at the box office for DreamWorks, making $1.8 billion worldwide.

Rihanna also starred in the 2012 film "Battleship" as Petty Officer Cora "Weps" Raikes and in the 2013 film "This Is the End" as herself.
