Target in Australia has taken a big stance against "Grand Theft Auto 5." The big box retailer is taking all copies of "GTA 5" off shelves due to the game's violence against women.

Target said it was getting feedback from customers complaining about the way that women were treated in the game.

Many complaints have been coming in recently from concerned members in the community, according to Target corporate affairs manager Jim Cooper.

"There is a significant level of concern about the game's content," he said.

Not everyone is against the game in Australia though, Cooper added. He said many customers were voicing their support for the game and insisted that the retailer continue to sell the game.

"We respect their perspective on the issue," Cooper said. "However, we feel the decision to stop selling GTA V is in line with the majority view of our customers."

"GTA 5" is rated R18 (similar to M in the U.S.) in Australia. This is similar to (R-rated) DVDs and other games that Target continues to sell, however GTA 5 will not be sold any longer.

"While these products often contain imagery that some customers find offensive, in the vast majority of cases, we believe they are appropriate products for us to sell to adult customers," he said. "However, in the case of GTA V, we have listened to the strong feedback from customers that this is not a product they want us to sell."

The decision was made Wednesday by Target Australia. It could be in response to a recent change.org petition to get the game off shelves of stores.

More than 42,000 have signed the petition that asks for the game to be taken off shelves of Target locations.

We will have to wait and see what happens with the game in Australia and if this decision has any ripple effects on the game's sales in the rest of the world.
