The holiday season is fast approaching, and for many people this year, that can only mean one thing: video games. Both the Xbox One and the PS4 are hitting the shelves in time for the post-Thanksgiving Day shopping frenzy, so let's do a little comparison shopping of our own.

So far, the general sentiment has been that Sony's PS4 is a superior offering to that of the Xbox One by Microsoft. In large part, that was fueled by the PS4's lower price, but the early decision by Microsoft to include an "always-on" DRM policy (which they have since retracted), left a bad taste in many gamers' mouths as well.

"The [IDC] research firm this week forecast that Sony's next-generation console will "edge out" Microsoft's Xbox One in sales over the holidays. The prediction was based on a variety of factors, most notably the PS4's lower price point," reports PCMag.

Not only does the PS4 come in at $100 cheaper than the Xbox One ($499 to $399), but it will also arrive a week earlier as well. The PS4 is slated to be on shelves November 15th, while Microsoft is releasing the Xbox One on the 22nd.

But the comparisons don't stop there. With both consoles now more or less laid bare for the public to feast their collective eyes on, an article was written recently suggesting that despite its other faults, the Xbox One's controller could give it a slight advantage.

"When taken together, I prefer the Xbox One controller by a nose. Good to look at and great to handle, the only thing that stops me from wholeheartedly praising it would be my misgivings surrounding its sticks," reports Benjamin Abbott for Metro.

Overall, however, both controllers were praised as improvements on their respective previous generations. With both consoles also offering similar CPU and GPU power, it's very likely that this competition for gamers' hearts may just go down to the wire.
