The "Material Girl" has been out of the spotlight for some time but has resurfaced in a provocative interview and photo spread in Interview magazine, reports Style.com.

The December 2014 art issue of Interview magazine features Madonna in an exquisite (albeit risqué) photo shoot posing in high-necked, long-sleeved latex and draped across couches wearing leather coats and rubber underwear.

For one photo, Madonna wore a bondage-meets-gas-mask contraption on her face. A snake was involved in another snapshot.

And we can't forget about the 56-year-old diva donning an open pink sweater that revealed her age-defying breasts. The magazine photo has caused quite a fuss on Twitter. There were some negative comments that, at her age, mammograms should be the only time pictures are taken of her breasts.

The women of daytime TV have also chimed in.

"If you are beautiful and you want to share your body, we all have the freedom to do that. However, I do think that she must be very insecure as a woman ... She constantly has to keep showing it," Sharon Osbourne said on a recent episode of "The Talk."

"If my titties looked like that, I'd be nude right now ... The thing is, she's beautiful and proud of her body and always has been," Rosie O'Donnell, "The View" host, said

The stunning photographs accompany an interview with Madonna conducted by her friend and magician David Blaine. In the interview, the pair talk about art, performance, drugs, life, death, philosophy, and Madonna's spiritual beliefs, which include angels and prayer. The Golden Globe award winner also reveals a great deal about her creative process, success, failure  and her younger days in 1980s New York City.

Meanwhile, The New York Times reports Madonna is replacing Lady Gaga as the face of Donatella Versace's spring/summer 2015 collection.

The pop superstar hasn't released a full-length album since 2012 but reportedly has collaborated with super-producer Diplo on an upcoming album due for release in 2015. A sample of her new song, titled "Rebel Heart," leaked to the Internet on Nov. 27, according to Billboard.

If all this isn't enough, Wealth-X named Madonna as the wealthiest recording artist in the world. Her net worth is $800 million.
