'Terminator: Genisys' 2015 Movie Plot, Cast, News & Release Date: New Trailer Video Shows Arnold Schwarzenegger's Role [Watch]
Arnold Schwarzenegger told audiences he'd be back. The former governor of California will return to the big screen for the next chapter of the "Terminator" franchise, "Terminator: Genisys." The first trailer was released Friday online, showing the actor as the familiar robot protector along with Sarah Connor who must go out and save the world once again.
Rolling Stone reports "Genisys" marks the first in three new "Terminator" films, and the first shots in the trailer are set up the same way as the James Cameron original.
In the year 2029, John Conner, played by "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" actor Jason Clarke, sends a man back to the 1980s to save his mother, Sarah. That man is Kyle Reese, played by Jai Courtney. Reese must try and rescue Sarah Connor, played by "Game of Thrones'" Emilia Clarke, who is being chased by the Terminator programmed to kill her.
However, when Reese finds Connor, she says, "We already took care of him." The "we" she is referring to is herself and Schwarzenegger, who is seen in the trailer performing stunts like battling his 1984 self and jumping out of an airborne helicopter.
Other exciting scenes previewed in the trailer are also shared, like a motorcycle jumping on top of a moving train and a school bus being projected into the air, flipping end-over-end while driving on the Golden Gate Bridge.
"Terminator: Genisys" is scheduled to be released to theaters next July. The film was directed by Alan Taylor, who brought "Thor: the Dark World" to the big screen. It is the latest movie in the Terminator series following 2009's "Terminator Salvation," which was the first film in the action blockbusters to not feature Schwarzenegger, who was unavailable because he was still serving as California's "Governator" at the time.
The trailer for the upcoming film can be seen below.
