The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51 is taking the auto world by storm with its high horsepower and EPA gas mileage rating. If you want your own 2014 Corvette Stingray, you might have to wait a while as General Motors (GM) says that it is almost sold out of the vehicle.

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has over 455 horsepower and the EPA just announced that the sports car gets 16mpg in the city and 28mpg in the highway. As a result, the Corvette has been selling rapidly; only a six-day supply of the car remains.

"Right now we have a six-day supply," Monte Doran, a spokesman for Chevrolet, said in an interview with Edmunds. "There are no cars in dealer showrooms. The cars are getting sold the minute they arrive."

Typically, the ideal supply of cars is one that lasts about 60 days. GM, however, is still not ready to say that the car is sold out.

"It's premature to call it a sell out," Doran said. "It's also too early to say it's in short supply. We've been shipping for a short time. We've just started opening the floodgates at the plant. You won't be able to walk down to your local Chevy dealership and buy one today, but we're not ready to say there's a massive shortage of cars."

Currently GM's Bowling Green Assembly Plant is making 17 Corvette Stingrays per hour per shift, which amounts to about 160 new Stingrays a day. GM does not have any immediate plans to increase production.

"We never say we're not going to do something," Doran said. "Right now, the plant is running at capacity. We're producing cars as quickly as we can."

Demand for the 2014 Corvette Stingray is so high that some shoppers have paid an extra $20,000 to get their names placed higher on the waiting list, Rush Lane reports.

"There are people willing to pay more to have the first cars," Doran said. "Once those people get their cars, I think you'll start to see things evening out."
