One Direction News 2014: 'The Lord of the Rings' Actor Ian McKellen and Harry Styles Find Each Other 'Amazing' [Video]
Sometimes news travels slow across the pond; it's surprising One Direction fans and cosplayers who pledge allegiance to "The Lord of the Rings" franchise haven't jumped over to Tumblr for an old-fashion meme share. However, last week, Sir Ian McKellen and the members of British boyband One Direction stopped by "The Graham Norton Show" in an interesting meeting of the minds.
According to Out.com, while it would make sense that Harry Styles, member of the internationally famous boyband, would be a fan of Sir McKellen, a film and theatre legend, it shocked some viewers who were surprised that the illustrious actor was a connoisseur of the group's musical efforts.
"McKellen and the band had nearly met in New Zealand, when the band was touring and Sir Ian was film [sic] 'The Hobbit' films, but it never came to be," Out reports.
That is until their paths faithfully aligned on live-air.
"You were meant to come and see us filming the day after your final concert," McKellen said. "So, I thought I'd go and have a look at them and see who they are. Very enjoyable. Anyway, they didn't turn up the next day to visit us because 'Why?' I don't know. What have happened to you guys that night?"
With perfect timing, McKellen mimed them drinking an alcoholic beverage and smoking.
"You're amazing," a star-struck Styles said.
"So are you," McKellen countered joyfully, sporting One Direction swag including a colorful T-shirt with the band's insignia.
McKellen and Styles even cuddled.
Shortly after, after McKellen did a riotous funny dramatic reading of their hit song "Best Song Ever."
Over the course of the interview, host and comedian Graham Norton also asked McKellen's thoughts in regards to the blockbuster films that have been part of his life for 14 years and the final days of shooting the film.
"Well, it's over now. I was with 'The Hobbit' for some time, but it was very moving," McKellen said. "It's nice, we made classics."
