Internet users across the globe were most fascinated and consumed with searching about the death of Robin Williams, the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and Ebola, according to Google's annual list of the most popular search terms in the past year.

On Tuesday, Google released its 2014 lists of popular trending searches. Topping the lists in the U.S. and throughout the world was Robin Williams, who committed suicide on Aug. 11 at the age of 63 after a long battle with depression and addiction.

"The passing of beloved comedian and actor Robin Williams shook the world, bringing many people online to search for more information and to remember," Google said in a press release, according to the Los Angeles Times. "There was even an uptick in searches related to depression tests and mental health in the days following his death."

The World Cup came in second place on both the U.S. and global lists of trending searches.

Ebola was the third most popular search term, followed by Malaysia Airlines in the aftermath of the disappearance of Flight 370 on March 8.

The wildly popular mobile game Flappy Bird rounded out the list of the top five most searched terms in the U.S., while the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge came in fifth place on the global list.

Although Kim Kardashian aimed to "break the Internet" with the release of her nude photos in Paper Magazine, the 34-year-old reality star came in second place on the list of most popular global and U.S. searches for living people. Meanwhile, actress Jennifer Lawrence came in first place on both lists.
