In a new interview, Jennifer Lopez said that dating younger men is no big deal, according to People.com.

The singer, dancer and "American Idol" judge is on the cover of Self magazine's January issue, where she talks about her "love addiction."

Fox News Latino reports that the singer ended a relationship with a younger man, Casper Smart, back in June. In her interview with Self, Lopez said she understands what it is like to date a younger man because there is a certain attraction in them. Lopez also stars in the movie "The Boy Next Door," which hits theaters Jan. 23, 2015, about a woman who falls in love with a high school-aged boy during her separation.

"All the old clichés about women need to be undone," she said. "We're in the other position now. We are desirable older. We can date younger guys, and it's not this big taboo. Men have been doing this for years, and it's no big deal. Enough with the clichés about women. We can date younger guys, and it's no big deal."

The singer and actress also talked about her battle with learning how to be alone and not using relationships to cope with the pain. She referred to her three failed marriages and past relationships.

"I've been through divorce. I've been cheated on, just like every other girl in the world," she said.

The mother of twins explained she has always found comfort in relationships, the same way that people would find comfort in drugs and diagnosed herself with something she calls being a "love addict."

"When you have that much pain, you have to anesthetize yourself in some ways," she said. "People do different things. Some go out and party and sleep around, but that's just not my way. I found the comfort in someone else. That's called being a love addict. So first it was learning to love myself. And then it was about facing my fears."

Her new book, "True Love," also speaks about her love addiction and past relationships in more detail.

Lopez will be seen as a judge alongside Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. on Season 14 of "American Idol," which premiere Jan. 7 and 8 on Fox at 8 p.m.
