Texas Weatherman Patrick Crawford Shooting: Police Still Looking for 'Dangerous' Suspect Who Shot at Meteorologist 13 Times
A local meteorologist from central Texas was shot multiple times outside his studio as he headed home on Wednesday morning.
Police are currently looking for the man who shot morning meteorologist Patrick Crawford, who is in stable condition.
Crawford, 35, had just entered his car to leave work when an unidentified man approached him, entered his car and subsequently shot him multiple times in the parking lot of NBC affiliate KCEN near Waco, Texas, according to ABC News. Crawford, wounded, managed to drive away and got help from nearby construction workers.
Police officers from Texas Highway Patrol told KHOU that the shooter fired 13 times. Eleven bullets hit Crawford's car while two hit him.
"He was entering the car when the exchange of gunfire, or the gunfire started," Senior Trooper D.L. Wilson of the Highway Patrol said. "He did an excellent job getting in the car speeding off and probably saved his life."
Wilson said the suspect is currently "considered armed and dangerous.
"We're still going with [the description of] a white male, 30 to 35, receding hairline, had a black hoodie and dark-colored pants," he continued.
Crawford was taken to the hospital soon after where he underwent surgery for his injuries.
KCEN meteorologist Heather Brinkmann, Crawford's wife, has been by his side and has provided updates to the community.
"Thank you for your continuous thoughts and prayers. I am happy to say that Patrick is in stable condition," she said on Facebook. "Doctors continue to tell me how well he's doing considering the multiple gunshot wounds. Police tell me that if it wasn't for his smarts to hurry up and drive off and flag down construction workers, it could have been a whole different story. He is truly my hero."
The hashtag #oursuperman was started by his friends and has been used by the community to show their support. Crawford's favorite superhero is Superman.
According to KCEN, a Falls County Sheriff's deputy has been checking everyone's identification at the station's parking lot Thursday morning. Police are still investigating and have collected evidence from Crawford's car.
