UFC News & Notes: CM Punk Willing to Face Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva
Phil "CM Punk" Brooks is ready to prove his doubters wrong in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, saying that he is ready to face anyone, including Nate Diaz and Anderson Silva.
CM Punk, who is currently undergoing rigid mixed martial arts training to prepare for his UFC debut, knows that he cannot pick his opponent for his first several fights.
"Who I fight isn't 100 percent up to me. I don't think it's 100 percent up to any fighter," CM Punk said via MMA Fighting. "That's what the (UFC matchmaker) Joe Silvas of the world are for."
But if given the opportunity, CM Punk said that he is ready to face Diaz and even Anderson Silva. The former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar pointed out that he will face Diaz if given enough time to train and Silva for the right price, knowing that he will have difficult time dealing with both MMA veterans.
"I would fight anybody given the proper time to prepare for it," CM Punk said when asked about fighting Diaz. "Would that be a wise decision at this juncture in my career? Probably not. But I would also fight Anderson Silva tomorrow if you paid me the correct amount of money to do so."
A fight against Diaz will be intriguing for most UFC fans after the lightweight contender blasted the promotion for signing CM Punk. Diaz called CM Punk an "amateur," saying that UFC's decision to sign him "downgrades all the fighters" because the former wrestler "got no fights" despite being a big draw.
In a recent interview, CM Punk, who is looking to follow the footsteps of Brock Lesnar who made a name for himself inside the UFC Octagon after leaving WWE, said that he will look to silence all critics.
"I have bitten off a chunk of greatness that a lot of people perceive is too much for me to handle," CM Punk said via Florida Today. "Those people don't know me. They don't even know what I can handle. I do."
