Rihanna is known for her love of tattoos. She already has 20 inks on her body, and she recently added another one to her body art collection -- this time, she didn't go under the usual needle; instead, she went under a chisel and a hammer.

The "Pour It Up" singer was visiting New Zealand as part of her "Diamonds World Tour," and decided to permanently mark her recent trip by getting a traditional Maori tattoo on her right hand. She also wished to get it in tribute to the indigenous people of New Zealand.

At the Moko Ink Studio in West Auckland, her latest tattoo was done by legendary tattoo artist Inia Taylor and assisted by a local singer Tiki Taane. The process required a lot of pain, using the excruciating yet traditional Ta Moko method, which is done only with a chisel, a mallet and ink pigment.

According to the tattoo parlor's website, "Moko Ink is the world's first Maori Tattoo Studio specializing in the contemporary use and creation of traditional Maori and Polynesian Tatu."

Rihanna's new tattoo runs from her fingertips all the way to her forearm. Its elaborate lines and symbols seem to be arrow-shaped.

In addition, the singer mentioned in the past that her tattoos have significant meanings. "My tattoos are all spiritual and show how I feel about religion. I have a falcon which is an Egyptian falcon and is supposed to stand for God."

"Bye bye New Zealand!" she wrote on her Twitter. "I love you! Hate to leave... soon." With her new tattoo, Rihanna will be able to remember her trip to New Zealand forever and ever.
