'The Big Bang Theory' Cast News: Actress Kaley Cuoco Apologizes For Feminism Comments
Although actress Kaley Cuoco plays a sassy, bread-winning business woman on TV, she made it clear in a recent interview that she's far from a feminist in real life. Now the "Big Bang Theory" star is backtracking on her comments.
In an interview with Redbook for the magazine's February 2015 issue, the 29-year-old actress opened up about her thoughts on gender roles and admitted that she does not consider herself a feminist.
When asked if she identifies as a feminist, she responded saying: "Is it bad if I say no? It's not really something I think about. Things are different now, and I know a lot of the work that paved the way for women happened before I was around ... I was never that feminist girl demanding equality, but maybe that's because I've never really faced inequality."
She then went on to discuss gender roles and her marriage to Ryan Sweeting, saying: "I cook for Ryan five nights a week: It makes me feel like a housewife; I love that. I know it sounds old-fashioned, but I like the idea of women taking care of their men. I'm so in control of my work that I like coming home and serving him. My mom was like that, so I think it kind of rubbed off."
In turn, her comments sparked outrage online.
"How can someone who is reaping the benefits of the feminist movement (via her large paycheck) not be a 'feminist'?" wrote Twitter user @JamieRaeGibson, according to the Daily Mail.
Another user, @NicoleMojan, tweeted, "Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting's thoughts on feminism are as tragic as her haircut. Barf."
"That's really sad. I don't think she knows what it means," added @RachelxDuncan.
As a result, Cuoco apologized for her comments about feminism and insisted that her remarks were "taken out of context."
"In my Redbook article, some people have taken offense to my comments regarding feminism- if any of you are In the 'biz' you are well aware of how words can be taken out of context," she wrote on New Year's day on her Instagram page, reports the Daily Mail.
"I'm completely blessed and grateful that strong women have paved the way for my success along with many others. I apologize if anyone was offended. Anyone that truly knows me, knows my heart and knows what I meant," she added.
When "The Big Bang Theory" returns to CBS with new episodes, Cuoco's character Penny and Amy will coerce their boyfriends Leonard and Sheldon into taking them shopping. However, after Leonard and Sheldon agree to participate in an activity that their girlfriends like to do, it will lead to a confrontation between them, reports Carter Matt.
In the meantime, Raj will be concerned over the success of a probe he designed and whether or not it will work in outer space.
According to The Big Bang Theory Fan Site, the official synopsis states that: "Wolowitz tries to distract Raj, who is anxiously awaiting data from a space probe he helped launch. Meanwhile, Sheldon and Leonard go dress shopping with Penny and Amy."
"The Big Bang Theory" Season 8, Episode 12, "The Space Probe Disintegration," will air on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
