Calibash 2015: Urban Latin Music Festival to Feature Pitbull, Don Omar, Carlos Vives at L.A.'s Staples Center on Jan. 24
Dubbed "the leading urban Latin music festival in the world," thousands of bilingual and English-speaking Latino Millenials are gearing up for this year's Calibash Festival, which will take place at L.A.'s Staples Center on Jan. 24, 2015.
Pitbull, Don Omar, Carlos Vives, Tego Calderon, Wisin, Plan B, J Alvarez, Farruko, 3BallMTY, Gente de Zona and Maluma are among the top talents scheduled to perform.
"The lineup joins some of the most established Latin music acts with a strong representation of emerging artists who have become familiar names on the charts, including Farruko ('Passion Wine'), J Alvarez ('La Pregunta'), and Gente de Zona ('Bailando')," according to Billboard.
In past years, artists who performed at the seven-year-old festival have included Chris Brown, Pitbull, Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Wisin y Yandel, Prince Royce, Alexis y Fido, Ivy Queen, Tito "El Bambino", 50 Cent and LMFAO, among others.
"SBS Entertainment continues the tradition of producing the most important Latin Urban music concert in the world and again, in association with AEG LIVE, Calibash 2015 in Los Angeles, California will certainly be the biggest Calibash yet," stated Lucas Pina, Senior VP of SBS Entertainment. "SBS Entertainment consistently brings innovation and entertainment to the new generation of bilingual and bicultural Latino youth."
Calibash Festival 2015 was previously scheduled to take place on Nov. 22; however, SBS moved the Calibash date ahead when iHeartMedia launched its own Latin mega concert, the iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina, on that same November date, Billboard pointed out.
It's been a busy time of year for many Latin performers. Pitbull rang in the New Year by performing with Ne-Yo for "Pitbull's New Year's Revolution" on FOX at the Thompson Miami Beach Hotel on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014.
According to reports, "Pitbull's New Year's Revolution Pt. 1" on Fox (2.2 million, 0.7) came in third place, being beat out by New Year's Eve specials "Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve" on ABC (9.6 million viewers, 2.7), which came in first place, and NBC's "New Year's Eve with Carson Daly" (5.4 million, 1.5), which came in second place.
Despite coming in third place in the ratings for "Pitbull's New Year's Revolution," the rapper of Cuban descent, who's also known as "Mr. Worldwide," has sold millions of albums and his duets with top artists have help him command both domestic and international music charts.
Pitbull, "a proven tycoon on various business ventures," the organizers at Calibash point out, has his own record label in addition to many chart-topping collaborations with Usher, Fergie, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Brown, Christina Aguilera, Shakira, Marc Anthony and Enrique Iglesias, among others.
Tickets for Calibash, which is presented by SBS Entertainment, AEG Live and Mega 96.3 FM, are available for purchase at www.axs.com.
