Virgil Hunter, the trainer of British boxing star Amir Khan, believes Floyd Mayweather Jr. will win against Manny Pacquiao if the rumored showdown between the two superstars happens on Cinco de Mayo weekend.

Both camps are reportedly discussing the potential record-breaking showdown and are exchanging counter offers over the past several weeks. Boxing fans are eager to see if Pacquiao could hand Mayweather the first defeat of his illustrious boxing career.

But for Hunter, whose prized fighter is also aching to face Mayweather, Pacquiao's fighting style will not work against the reigning pound-for-pound king because the Filipino boxing icon has not made adjustments over the past several years.

"I see Mayweather winning the fight," Hunter told On The Ropes Boxing Radio. "The reason I say that is because Manny for some reason really hasn't reinvented himself yet. He's still fighting with the same intensity and the same training philosophy, it's a really high energy fighting style. He hasn't really come into his own from what I can see."

According to Hunter, a fighter should be very focused and efficient when facing a fighter as great as Mayweather.

In Pacquiao's case, Hunter said the reigning World Boxing Organization welterweight champion is a "lethal fighter," but he cannot see the former pound-for-pound king sustaining his intensity for the entire bout.

Hunter said Pacquiao might wear down mentally and physically in the middle rounds because Mayweather is very good in reading his opponent's fighting style and getting idea on how to frustrate his foe.

"I would pick Floyd to win that fight by a pretty decisive decision because he's able to control your activity and bring your punch count down, and that could be very frustrating to a fighter who likes to throw a lot of punches and who likes to fight at a high energetic style," Hunter said.

In another On The Ropes Boxing Radio interview, former world heavyweight champion Mike Weaver also picked Mayweather to win over his biggest rival.

Weaver said the Pacquiao-Mayweather bout is too close to call, but he can see Mayweather winning the super fight. He said Mayweather is a bit faster and more creative than Pacquiao.

"I think Mayweather wins, I think Mayweather is a little bit faster," Weaver said. "Even though I think it would be a good fight, I see Mayweather winning against Pacquiao because he's a little craftier and has more elusiveness. That's my personal opinion."
