Mexican Woman's Body Found in Cistern 10 Months After Being Reported Missing
Carmen Yarira Esparza Noriega went missing on Feb. 18 2014, and in December, she was found in a cistern.
According to Milenio, she was believed to have been a victim of human trafficking, but the 27-year-old woman was found in the cistern of the building where she lived. The body was found after there was an issue with the tank at the Chapultepec apartment building.
When the building's employees opened the cistern on Dec. 23, which provided water to 50 apartments, Noriega was found floating inside of the tank. Her body was very decayed, and it was hard to identify her.
She was last seen wearing athletic clothing in February. Some reported that they saw her leaving the apartment building, and her family launched a social media campaign to try to get more information, Milenio reports.
The autopsy found that she was strangled to death, according to TV Notas.
"Lifeless female body, unidentified, approximately between 28 and 35 years old, found on the inside of a cistern and in a state of decomposition," the preliminary investigation said.
Excelsior adds that Noriega had ended a relationship with a businessman who allegedly paid for her luxury apartment before she went missing. She was also in the process of moving in with her new boyfriend.
She worked for the University of Anahuac in Cancun, and she also studied acting in Argos CasAzul. When she went missing, CasAzul shared a message to try to help get more information about the young woman.
"#Alert She is Carmen Yarira Esparza Noriega, student of CasAzul and she is missing. RT please," Argos said on Twitter.
There was an image with the message. It gave more information about when she was last seen, and featured a picture of Noriega.
