Automakers are taking the North American International Auto Show in Detroit by storm with the unveiling of supercars. Ford debuted its all-new GT at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show on Monday. Let's see how Ford's GT supercar compares with the Acura NSX.

Ford GT

The Ford Motor Company stunned the automotive world with the introduction of its all-new GT supercar Monday at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. It is not a concept car; it represents the sports car that will be rolled out into showrooms in 2016.

The car has a litany of supercar specs such as rear-wheel-drive, a mid-mounted engine and an aerodynamic coupe body.

Ford replaced the V-8 in the previous GT with an EcoBoost V-6 engine, whose twin-turbochargers can generate over 600 horsepower. The engine is 3.5-liter that features a wide power band with new design features that include updated direct-injection and valve train to boost efficiency and performance. The transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle.

Ford used carbon fiber and aluminum for the GT chassis, which gives the car an impactful power-to-weight ratio. The body features active aerodynamics, like the deployable rear spoiler.

The racing-style torsion bar and pushrod suspension allows for adjustable ride height. The 20-inch wheels are a set shod with Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 tires specially designed for the new GT. Carbon ceramic discs provide stopping power.

Access to the cabin is by a pair of doors that swing upwards, although they are not full gullwing doors. The open doors reveal a pair of fixed seat in the carbon fiber passenger cavity. Adjustable pedals and steering column can easily accommodate a wide variety of driver body types similar to that in Ferrari's LaFerrari flagship.

The digital instrument cluster can be configured to multiple driving environments and modes. Lastly, the stalk-less F1-style steering wheel contains all driver controls and provides complete access to the transmission paddle-shift controls.

A small team developed the GT over the past year in the Product Development Center basement in Dearborn, Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of The Americas, told the Detroit Free Press.

Ford will make a limited number of GTs for sale in the second half of 2016, positioning the company to capitalize on the 50th anniversary of the GT40's wins at the Le Mans race. The GT will be sold in the U.S. first, then globally, according to Executive Chairman Bill Ford. The sticker price could compete with the $150,000 Acura NSX.

Alongside the debut of Ford's GT, Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios announced that the "Forza Motorsport 6" game will have the new Ford GT on its cover and will be arriving exclusively on Xbox One, Xbox Wirereports. In addition, Ford's performance vehicles, like the Shelby GT350 Mustang, GT and F-150 Raptor, will appear in "Forza Motorsport 6."

Acura NSX

The NSX sports car dazzled the automotive world 25 years ago by proving a Japanese automaker could compete with Ferrari in designing an exotic and uncompromising car. Acura raised the bar Monday when it unleashed the new NSX at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show with significant improvements, reports USA Today. The NSX was one of two revived supercars showcased (the other being the Ford GT).

Acura introduced a new NSX concept two years ago at the show but decided it needed to beef up features to be taken seriously.

"Our commitment was to create an all-new NSX that is true to the heritage of NSX -- a supercar that delivers a new driving experience," Mike Accavitti, senior vice president in charge of Acura, said in a statement. "The soul of a car is the emotional connection it makes with the driver. With the NSX, that connection will be intense and immediate."

According to Acura, it took three years to develop the NSX which will be produced in Ohio and be available for ordering in August.

The intensity starts with the new engine that boasts twin turbos, three electric motors and six cylinders that deliver breath-taking power. The larger air ducts suck more air into the intercoolers to enable the two turbos. A nine-speed dual clutch transmission ensures a great driver experience.

Acura's ballpark price for the NSX is about $150,000.
