Memphis police have charged a man for brutally beating his girlfriend's toddler for eating the last slice of cheesecake.

Katrina Johnson, the child's mother, told police that her boyfriend, Anthony Gulledge, 30, was mad when he came home Saturday and realized that her 3-year-old son had eaten the last piece of a cheesecake in the refrigerator. As a result, Gulledge dragged the boy by his ankles to the living room, where he violently whipped him, reports WMC Action News 5. Johnson said Gulledge also whipped the young child again later that night.

The little boy was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital for a broken femur bone, dislocated vertebrae in his back, bruised lungs and several bruises. He was also reported to be in critical condition.

"No child deserves that, over a slice of cake," one mother who drops her children off at a daycare near where police say Gulledge beat the little boy said reports WREG. "That's a little nerve racking."

Gulledge was arrested on Sunday and charged with neglect, aggravated child abuse and domestic assault. He is currently being held at the Shelby County Jail on a $210,000 bond, although he denies any wrongdoing.

Johnson was also reportedly arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse because police say she did not try to stop the beating and neglected to seek medical attention for her son until the following day.

Gulledge has a long history of violence and run-ins with the law. Police records show cops have been sent to the same address several times for domestic assault. During each incident, Gulledge was reportedly fighting with his girlfriend of 10 years. His criminal record also show that he was arrested for robbery in Arkansas.
