'The Originals' Season 2, Episode 10 Spoilers: Will Esther Transition Into a Vampire in 'Gonna Set Your Flag on Fire?'
TV fans can expect to see more thrills, adventures and intense family drama when Season 2 of "The Originals" returns from its winter hiatus on Monday.
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Michael Narducci opened up about the internal conflict within the Mikaelson family that will be a centerpiece in the second half of the season.
"We saw in the midseason finale how the vampire family neutralized Esther," Narducci said in regard to the Mikaelson matriarch, who may have been turned into a vampire. "And now Michael and Finn are together. And [Finn] kind of has a leg to stand on, because he told Cami, 'I'm kind of a hero. I'm trying to neutralize the threat of vampires by going against my wicked siblings.' So it's going to be really interesting to see his strategy and his agenda coming into the new [year]. Very quickly he becomes a threat and he uses Mikael ... to help him accomplish that."
The executive producer also hinted that "The Originals" has "eluded some things about Esther's origin as a witch, and what kind of deal she had to make to even be a mother to this family."
"... with the long-lost sister, Freya, and the powerful witch, Dahlia, taking the first-born children of the Mikaelson bloodline, the big question is will she show up, and will she come for [Hope]?" Narducci continued. "... The question becomes, what will [Klaus] do to protect that child? And will that force him to be into conflict [with his family]; do they have a different strategy? And so it becomes a circle the wagons, all hands on deck situation. And Klaus is not necessarily going to follow orders, so what does that mean for the family?"
Executive producer Julie Plec also teased that fans will uncover why Esther and Dahlia are so afraid of Mikael, along with Esther's fate.
"I cannot say whether she does or does not [transition into a vampire], but I can say that we learn which choice she made in the very first episode back," Plec told TVLIne.
However, Plec warned that fans should not hold their breath waiting for romance to spark between Klaus and Camille.
"Klaus is someone who believes that love makes him weak, and he is terrified of it, yet he's opened his heart to this daughter that's filling his heart in a way he never thought it could be filled," she explained. "Given his hesitation about embarking on too many feelings, I think he's full up at the moment. There isn't necessarily a romance he's going to be interested in exploring in quite some time."
In wake of the upcoming episode, The CW released an exclusive sneak peek via TVLine from "Gonna Set Your Flag on Fire," in which Klaus devises a plan to protect Cami. Klaus also shows concern for his brother Elijah, who savagely killed innocent people at a diner.
"A single violent outburst at a filthy roadside café and one never hears the end of it," Elijah quips in the clip.
According to Carter Matt, the synopsis released by The CW reads as follows:
"With Vincent (guest star Yusuf Gatewood) on the loose and hellbent on revenge, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) brings Cami (Leah Pipes) to the safe house as he and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) return to the compound. Hayley and Jackson (guest star Nathan Parsons) devise a plan to bring the vampires and werewolves together to consider a truce, but tensions grow when Vincent places a spell on the compound, trapping the two sides together.
"Meanwhile, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) grows concerned when Rebekah fails to show up at the safe house, prompting Klaus to confront Kaleb (guest star Daniel Sharman) for answers. Lastly, after accepting her mother's offer to jump into a new body, Rebekah (guest star Maisie Richardson-Sellers) turns to former Harvest girl Cassie (guest star Natalie Dreyfuss) for help when she finds herself trapped inside an insane asylum."
Season 2, Episode 10 of "The Originals," titled "Gonna Set Your Flag on Fire," will premiere Monday, Jan. 19 on the CW.
