With the Philadelphia Eagles season complete and finished, the draft and free agency is next. The 2015 NFL draft isn't until April, but multiple reports have indicated that the Eagles are attempting to make a move for Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota.

The Eagles currently have the No. 20 overall selection in the draft because of their 10-6 regular season record.

Now, here's where things get tricky. The odds of Mariota falling to No. 20 in the draft are extremely unlikely because multiple teams ahead of them need a quarterback such as the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, St. Louis Rams, Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans. Although Mariota had a below average performance against Ohio State in the National Championship, he's still marked high by most draft experts like Todd McShay and Mel Kiper.

This season at Oregon, Mariota threw for an outstanding 42 touchdowns and just four interceptions giving him a 181.7 passer rating. The 2014 Heisman trophy winner finished his three year college career with more than 10,000 passing yards, 105 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while completing 66.8 percent of his passes.

There's no doubt Mariota is an elite college quarterback, but can his game translate to the pro level?

Many NFL experts have criticized Mariota's pocket passing skills, and believe Florida State's Jameis Winston is more pro ready. Of course Winston would have to tone down his off the field issues. Winston has declared that he, too, will enter the 2015 NFL draft.

So now that brings us to the Eagles connection, Chip Kelly.

Kelly, the current head coach of the Eagles, previously served as offensive coordinator (2007-08) for the Oregon Ducks, and head coach from 2009 to 2012. In 2012 his quarterback was Mariota. That year Mariota threw for 32 touchdowns, and the Ducks defeated the Kansas State Wildcats in the Fiesta Bowl, 35-17.

Obviously Kelly works well with Mariota, but what about the current Eagles quarterback situation? Mark Sanchez is great backup quarterback, but that's what he is, a backup quarterback. Sanchez has 82 touchdowns and 80 interceptions in his career for a reason. Then there's Nick Foles. Foles had an incredible 2013 season with 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions, but lack of consistency and a broken collar bone does leave some doubt about his future.

At this point, it just depends on how badly Kelly and general manager Howie Roseman want to purse Mariota. Kelly coaches a fast paced offense that puts a lot of stress on speed, throws from outside the pocket and quarterback mobility. Kelly and Mariota have worked well together in the past before, but succeeding in the NFL is a whole different story. Foles, a former third round pick, has one more year remaining on his rookie contract. Sanchez is scheduled to become a free agent this offseason.

Trading up for a quarterback can be very beneficial, as we saw with the New York Giants and Eli Manning. On the other hand, it can be very costly as saw with the Washington Redskins and Robert Griffin III. The Eagles are on the clock.
