PlayStation announced Tuesday on its company blog that Plex is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 in the U.S., Canada and Latin America. The media center app first came to Sony's consoles abroad in mid-December of 2014 with a U.S. release promised in the near future.

Plex on PlayStation is a simple interface to organize all of your media, including music, photos, home videos, and TV and movie collections. It automatically incorporates album covers, movie posters, plot summaries, ratings, cast information and descriptions to your stored media. You can enjoy your media on every TV in the house or on any mobile device.

Plex also enables you to share your media collection with friends and family on all major platforms and devices.

Currently, the app will only allow users to stream videos but the ability to stream music and photos will be coming soon, according to the PlayStation blog.

Users can expect big things from Plex when it comes to music. Gigaom reports the company has partnered with Gracenote to add recognition and tagging of files to the music library. Gracenote's data is used to automatically recommend music from your personal library. It can also generate playlists that work similar to Pandora stations.

If you are using Plex on the big screen, your music library will also display related music videos from Vevo, which you can watch without ads. "This will get music to the place where people don't need iTunes anymore," Plex Chief Product Officer Scott Olechowski told Gigoam. He said that Plex may add paid music downloads or partner with a music subscription service in the future.

Plex for PlayStation is available for free to Plex Pass subscribers. You can get Plex Pass monthly for $4.99, yearly for $39.99 or pay a $149.99 lifetime fee.

In the future, consumers without a Plex Pass will be able to get the app for a fee.

North and South America consumers can get the Plex app in the PlayStation Store.
