Smartphones have become the technology of the year. According to CNET, the smartphone market has seen its highest global shipments during the third quarter. A new record has been set, with more than 250 million smartphones shipped across the world in just one quarter, which is a significant 45 percentage increase compared to last year. The brand that stand the tallest among the prominent smartphone brands is not Apple but Samsung. Samsung exceeded Apple in global smartphone shipments, claiming the top position in global market share among phone manufacturers.

Samsung did not only exceed the number Apple units being shipped during the quarter; the company Samsung has been shipping more than twice the number of smartphones being shipped by Apple. Aside from the steady demand for the Samsung Galaxy S4, there is also a solid clamoring for the new Samsung Note 3 phablet as well as the company's mass market models like the Galaxy Y around the world. The incoming Samsung Galaxy S5 has technocrats jumping up and down too.

Samsung had shipped a record high of 88.4 million units of smartphones, allowing the company to hold 35% of the market share during this quarter. Samsung grew by 55 percent while Apple only grew by 26 percent. The latter only shipped 33.8 million iPhones on the same quarter, miles behind the number sold and shipped by Samsung. Apple's market share only increased by 3%, going from 13% from last year's third quarter to 16% during this year's third quarter. Both iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S failed to excite and achieve the sales expected.

However, Apple need not despair. The company known to be the top innovative brand in the mobile phone industry still posted better than anticipated earnings on Monday. The company reported earning $7.5 billion in profits despite not holding the top position in global smartphone sales. In addition, Strategy Analytics predicted that Apple would have higher global smartphone sales in the next quarter. Apple fans are also excited to hear about the iPhone 6.
