The first trailer of the 2014 film X-Men: Days of Future Past has just been released and everybody is already gushing about the superhero group.

Yahoo! Movies describes the video clip as "nothing short of epic." The trailer, narrated over by Charles Xavier a.k.a. Professor X (Patrick Stewart), features several of the superhero group's iconic characters - of course, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) included.

The trailer seemingly follows the plot of the sequel to the smash hit X-Men series, where Wolverine is sent back to the past to convince Professor X to stray away from a darker path that has affected a historical event, affecting both humans and mutants.

"I was a very different man. Lead me. Guide me. Be patient with me," Xavier tells Wolverine in the trailer, as clips from the film are shown.

The story of the movie resembles that of the original comic book. According to the Washington Post, parts of the trailer show a tight likeness to the story of the book written by Chris Claremont.

"Time travel. Wolverine with gray hair. Kitty Pride/Shadowcat. A dark future for mutants that needs saving from the past. Many elements from the first trailer hint a strong resemblance to the original comic book story," Washington Post wrote.

Back in the steering wheel, Bryan Singer will again be directing this sequel after leaving the series to direct Superman Returns.

Hinting on the story and theme of the film, Singer tweets: "Although there is a great deal of humor, the overall tone is a bit darker than previous films, particularly because of the stakes."

X-Men: Days of Future Past will be the seventh installment in the film franchise which include X-Men: First Class and two Wolverine spin-offs. The film will be making its way to theatres on May 23, 2014.
