Twitter has had private messages for a long time, but it never allowed more than two people to talk. Now, the social media site is adding group messages.

With Twitter, sometimes users will see a tweet that they want to discuss in private with just a few people rather than replying to the tweet and having the entire community see it. Now, that idea is possible with group messages, Twitter announced on its blog.

The feature is simple to use. When a user gets added to a group they get a notification from Twitter, and the group direct message works just like a group text message on a phone. Users will be able to share tweets, emojis and messages in a more private setting.

Direct messages used to be reserved for people who follow each other, but not everyone will be required to follow each other to use these group messages.

A built-in video camera will also be added to the Twitter app because of all the multimedia out there (YouTube videos, Vine clips, GIFs, etc.) Currently, only support for the Apple iPhone is available for the in-line camera, with Android support coming soon.

The in-line camera will work seemlessly with the Twitter app. Users will be able to share a video from a sports performance, a goofy face or anything else they would like easily by just hitting the camera button and then switching it into video mode. After the video is shot, users will be given the opportunity to drag-and-drop to edit the length and select only the best clip they want to tweet out to their followers.
